Oh I shipped

Apple accepted 1.0 into the app store two weeks ago, April 8th.

What Game You Bringing? on the App Store

Known issues

  • “Increase Contrast” iOS accessibility feature actually decreases contrast
  • Search doesn’t handle diacritics (if you search for “Orleans”, it won’t find Orléans, so you have to search for “orl” and “ans” if you want to find it.)

What’s Next

  • Sort menu & new default sort that surfaces lighter games
  • Player Count display should include supermajority details
  • Marketing. How on Earth do I promote this thing?

I have high hopes for huge new features, but it would be irresponsible to bite any off right now. Unless you know a board game store or cafe in the Bay Area that wants to collaborate. I have an idea.

App Store experience

I only had 1 rejection, which was because I’d failed to submit correctly - when submitting an app with a subscription for 1.0, you need to simultaneously submit that subscription in a specific way, which I never figured out.

I’d expected to go several rounds with rejections, so when it just sailed through after resubmitting I was surprised, exhilarated, stunned. I teared up a little.

And then it did take a full 48 hours and some fiddling in App Store Connect to get the listing showing up correctly in search results. So there’s no “launch day” really. Launch Quarter.

Inches from shipping

I think I’m ready to ship.

Ellen thinks I should get rid of the weird font and title text. She’s clearly right.

Also, in service of iOS 26, I’ve made it look pretty weird in iOS 18.

Not sure if I’ll fix either thing. I guess I should punt on them in the assumption that my first submission will be rejected anyway.

Easy or Explanatory

Filter screen with full complexity

Simple filter sheet

Both seem great for different people. Ideally I could transition from one to the other at different sizes, but that’s not easy to do well. I think I may seriously ship both and make it an option.

Jump to conclusions

This is what I think of, every time I tell someone about this project.

Credit, before I forget

  • BG stats for showing how to do it
  • GeekGroup.app for basically doing it already (and their recommended player count widget that I re-implemented)
  • Call Sheet for the whole UI
  • BGG for the whole, like, thing

Anything good in the app comes from ^ their work. Everything bad was all me.
